Lexmark Revamps Its Product Line

November 8, 2008

xxxxx
In October, Lexmark came out with a major upgrade to its laser printer and multifunctional lines, both color and black-and-white. Such a massive update of so many products at one time is, in our view, unprecedented. And the changes are not just superficial, they range from a new elegant styling to a number of almost invisible but impactful upgrades to a number of internal features.

Many of the innovations are spread across the line. Among the many improvements are:

  • Reduced footprint and more compact profile for most models.

  • Lowered operating decibel levels, lower than most of the competition.

  • Improved paper path and paper drawer technology that minimizes jams and skewed feeders.

  • Duplexing included in almost every model.

  • Reduced power consumption.

  • Impressively fast first page out times, even for the lower-end models.

  • Especially in black-and-white printers, ever higher print speed at the same price.

  • Bigger control panels for most models, along with a growing set of applications and custom interfaces available for site-specific workflows.

  • More tightly integrated multifunctional units, many of which have duplexing document feeders (DADFs).
  • In addition, Lexmark has now come out with a Rewards plan for regular buyers of color toner that reduces printing costs.

These are strong models up and down the line, and they replace an already strong product catalog. One further note: InfoPrint Printing Solutions (which resells Lexmark products, but usually after a significant delay) has jumped on these models and is selling virtually the complete line to its corporate customer base.
